MEET FATHER DAVID BOASE

Fr. David comes to us from York Diocese in the Church of England. A native of the north-west county of Cumbria in England, born in 1949, he attended Durham University, where he received a call to ordination, before going on to seminary at Cuddesdon College Oxford completing also at that time a Certificate in Education at Trinity College Oxford.

His early years in ministry, after being made Deacon in 1973 and ordained Priest in 1974, were spent back in his native Cumbria where, after his 'title' parish at Penrith, he taught ordinands for some time at Greystoke College, before moving to Gibraltar to be Precentor at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Port-Missioner and assistant Chaplain to the Royal Navy. Then, from the Mediterranean he transferred to Sweden where, from his base in Gothenburg, he ministered in addition to satellite congregations along the west coast of Sweden.

On returning to England he was parish priest in a parish on Teesside (in York Diocese) for 6 years, before spending 15 years as part-time parish priest and part-time Clergy In-Service Training Officer for the Archdeaconry of Cleveland. He comes to us having been a priest for 31 years and says he looks forward immensely to the years ahead in the Episcopal Parish of Alton and Springfield Diocese.

Fr. David's son is a History major at Edinburgh University in Scotland, and his daughter is majoring in Psychology at Northumbria University in the north of England. Fr. David himself is a keen sportsman and will be seeking out a squash court, though for now he says he will try to learn racketball. He promises not to try to teach us the game of Cricket! Fr. David was also involved in amateur theater in England and wonders if there may a possibility of continuing this here, though he reckons the standard of Alton Little Theater is too high for him!
